Batoul is 26 jaar en werkt sinds kort als Projectmaker bij Startblok. In Syrië heeft ze haar Bachelor Rechten gehaald, maar hier in Nederland wil ze iets nieuws leren: vanaf september gaat ze Social Work studeren in Amsterdam. Naast haar studie en werk voor Startblok vertaalt ze bij de gemeente voor Arabische mensen. Ook doet ze verschillende cursussen om zich voor te bereiden op het hoger onderwijs in Nederland. Verder is ze bezig met rijlessen, ze vindt het erg leuk om auto te rijden en wil in de toekomst haar eigen autootje hebben. In haar vrije tijd vindt ze het leuk om te koken, sporten en winkelen en is ze geïnteresseerd in make-up. Ook houdt ze ervan om samen dingen te maken en organiseren. Voor Batoul bij Startblok aan de slag ging heeft ze onder andere stage gelopen bij de rechtbank in Aleppo, vrijwilligerswerk gedaan als spelactiviteiten begeleider voor kinderen en een snuffelstage bij de juridische afdelingen van de gemeente Amsterdam.
Batoul woont nu een half jaar op Startblok. Via een collega bij de gemeente hoorde ze dat Startblok een leuk project was om te wonen. Wat haar zo aanspreekt aan het project is dat ze hier omringd is door leeftijdsgenoten en tegelijkertijd dingen voor mensen kan organiseren en met ze samen kan werken. ‘Het is een ideale plek om talen te oefenen, verschillende culturen te leren kennen en een netwerk op te bouwen. Er gebeurt altijd wel iets, dus het is nooit saai’.
Batoul is 26 years and is working as a Projectmanager at Startblok. In Syria she did a Bachelor in Law. But now that she is in the Netherlands she wants to learn something new. Starting in September she is going to start a study Social Work in Amsterdam. Besides her study and her work for Startblok she helps the municipality by translating for Arabic people. Moreover she is doing several courses to prepare for her study her in The Netherlands. She is taking driving lessons, she likes it a lot to drive a car and is saving to buy a car for her own. In her spare time she likes to cook, workout, shop and she is interested in make-up. Also she gets excited when she can make new things or organise events. Before Batoul started at Startblok she did an internship at a court in Aleppo and she did volunteering work as a gamemaster for children and she did an internship at the legal department of Amsterdam.
Batoul has been living at Startblok for half a year now. Via a colleague at the municipality she heard about Startblok and she really liked it. What appeals to her the most is the fact that she is surrounded by people of her age and that she can organise events for the community and work together with the community. It is the ideal place to learn new languages, get to know other cultures and to build a network. ‘There is always something happening, and it is never boring’.
